Your Role

We’re building a new type of people team that is remote-first, tech-enabled, and t-shaped.

As a People Partner (HR Business Partner) at Virtual Internships, you'll be a sparring partner to our managers and employees worldwide and help us build exceptional employee experience. If that sounds exciting to you, we’d love you to meet the team - right now consisting of People Operations Admin Manager Alex, the Global Head of People Operations Lucie, and the People Operations Associate who will also be joining the team soon.


Your Impact

You will be joining our Global Head of People Ops and the team in shipping and iterating on our new “people products” and supporting company-wide people initiatives, including but not limited to:

  • Remote-First - We are called “Virtual Internships” so we like to think we know a thing or two about being remote-first! However you will take us to a new level by ensuring we perfect the remote-first pillars such as asynchronous communication, virtual bonding & support networks, and inclusivity & autonomy.

  • Coaching & Support - As the main point of contact for our departmental heads and managers, you will be providing situational coaching and solving all employee relations matters.

  • Career Progression Tracks- We recognize there are many ways to grow and progress beyond at a hypergrowth startup, thus we want to help our colleagues understand the different pathways on how they can progress their careers at VI beyond just becoming a manager.

  • Analytics & Feedback- We need to develop mechanisms to track the status & progress of our HR processes, including DE&I, onboarding, satisfaction at work, and internal communications.

  • Other Core HR Operations - Think of this as the ‘catch-all’ of the usual operations that aren’t mentioned above, including payroll & benefits, performance reviews, policies, etc . You name it, you will help solve it!


In your first month, you will:

  • Get onboarded and brought up to speed with all things VI - our company structure, product, mission, and values.

  • Meet with colleagues across the company and start building relationships that will help you better understand the company.

  • Meet with your stakeholders (our leaders) to understand their desires and challenges.

  • Look into our current programs, systems, and data so you can gain insight into where we currently are.

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Coach and advise our leaders on all things people-related - employee relations, performance enablement, talent development, compensation, continuous feedback, engagement, remote work, diversity and inclusion, you name it. You’ll empower them to create the best environment for their team members.

  • Offer support and advocacy to our global workforce.

  • Challenge and evaluate the quality of existing “people products” and processes. Recommend and cooperate on changes based on employees' and business needs. Assist with their communication.

  • Collaborate closely with the Compliance team (People Operations, Legal and Finance teams) on building, updating, and communicating organizational policies, guidelines and procedures.

  • Collect and evaluate people data to identify root causes and trends and transform them into action that will improve our employee experience.

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Be the right-hand (wo)man to our Global Head of People Ops in building long-term growth and vision for the People Ops Team.

  • Be a culture builder and ensure our values and operating principles are reflected in both our people initiatives and daily operations across teams.

  • Be recognized as a trusted partner and resource in people matters.

This is a fully remote position, so anyone regardless of their location should be eligible to apply for this role. However, as the People Partner, you will be expected to work with our remote teams based across the globe (including Europe, Asia, America), so ideally we'd love someone who is based around the Central European Time (CET) timezone.

Job requirements

TLDR Version? You love working with people, data, and tech in a trinity. You have the mindset of thinking of People Ops as a Product - just like us!

As for the long version…

  • Relevant, progressive experience in people operations in a tech start-up/scale-up environment.

  • Previous experience in coaching and partnering up with all levels of management, ideally in a People Partner / HR Business Partner role.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Fluent in English (both written and verbal), as we are a global team.

  • Team player who genuinely cares about people and is an active listener.

  • Ability to take the initiative, demonstrate a sense of urgency and solve complex problems.

  • Not afraid to "roll up your sleeves" to complete more tactical work. Able to switch between strategic and tactical work daily.

  • Analytical approach to leveraging data to support decision making, ability to identify meaningful trends.

  • Thriving in a fast-paced remote-first environment.

You stand out from the crowd if:

  • You have worked as a People Partner/HR Business Partner at a Series A or Series B scaleup

  • You have worked at a remote-first organization.

If you don’t have experience in an HR Business Partnering role then we are also interested if you’re seeking a switch to People Partner and have:

  • 2 years+ experience in people operations at a tech startup
