Your Role

Working with a world-class globally distributed team, as an Engineering Manager / Tech Lead, you will be a key strategic engineering leader driving the development and scale of the VI platform to provide incredible and impactful experiences to customers and users of VI - including external and internal stakeholders.

  • Operate as a key senior team member within the Engineering team driving execution strategies and implementation of product roadmap.

  • Lead one or more squads of engineers (front-end and back-end) - hiring, managing them as well as 1:1 coaching and mentoring them to advance in their careers.

  • Lead work in tandem with Product Squads (including PM, Designers, and Analysts) and other internal stakeholders to strategize on and build world-class product/s.

  • Develop scope and objectives of projects and sprints based on technical feasibility, keeping relevant stakeholders in the loop, and ensuring the engineering team delivers consistently on the same.

  • Ensure engineering bandwidth based on availability and allocation, and develop and maintain detailed project plans to track progress and set expectations with engineering squad/s.

  • Perform regular risk management to evaluate and minimize project risks.

  • Manage own time and bandwidth by being hands-on as required on a regular basis.

  • Performing research and finding opportunities to utilize development best practices, forming guidelines to improve system productivity, and working on scaling and monitoring.

  • Scale technology architecture and team to drive short and long-term product growth.

Be a key engineering voice for Virtual Internships in the external world, showcasing the world-class capabilities of the engineering team through blogs, posts, events, and more

Your Impact

  • Ship - You'll be working on scaling and enhancing our flagship product. This involves overseeing the contributing to the libraries we use, managing the component/design system architecture and building the most robust testable features.

  • Align with business goals - You'll balance the short and long term. While knowing the importance of shipping quickly you also know how to craft thoughtful long-term technical strategy. You know when to address tech debt and when to improve infrastructure and processes (testing, code reviews, CI/CD).

  • Help build the team - The first set of members of a startup’s engineering team dictate the next 100. You'll help us get more talented engineers.

Your Attributes

TLDR Version? You work well in a team, constantly finding solutions to challenges and foresee future needs.

As for the long Version...

  • Active Learning - Being able to learn and adapt is a critical attribute for successful software engineers because the software landscape is continuously changing with new technologies and new engineering trends. You want to make sure you keep abreast of world class best practices.

  • Solution-minded - Adapting to challenges when the issues presented are what you may have never come across before but very much willing to explore new ways to find a solution to solve that challenge/bug/flaw.

  • Team-player - Being a software engineer sometimes makes it easy to work in silos, but effective productive development requires efficient team work and being ready to create positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues.

  • Big Picture Overview - Understanding the overall value of the features of a product and not overly obsessed with tasks being done.

Job requirements

Your Experience

  • At least 2+ years experience as a Node.Js developer.

  • Extensive knowledge of JavaScript, web stacks, libraries, and frameworks.

  • Knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML5 and CSS3.

  • Superb interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving aptitude.

  • Great organizational and time management skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information science, or similar.

  • Experience building products for large-scale enterprise (B2B) customers

  • Good technical competency and an understanding of working with cross functional teams.

  • Excellent focus on attention to detail and strong quantitative skills.

  • Experience in other backend technologies such as PHP, Java, Python etc.

You stand out from the crowd if:

  • You have worked at a Series A or Series B scaleup

  • Having worked as a full stack engineer or developer in a product organization.

  • Experience with a (any) set of incredible tools for product development and task management.

  • You have worked at a remote-first organisation

Consider this our wish-list. We know there will be great candidates that don't meet every one of these criteria—if you're passionate about the role and have early-stage startup experience, we'd still love to hear from you.
