What you will do
Reporting into the CEO, this is a hands-on, yet strategic high-profile role that will be pivotal in the company's future success. You'll get to lead a world-class engineering and data sciences team and work on a highly scalable product .
Lead a thriving engineering and data sciences team distributed across multiple value systems and squads/pods in having a transformative impact by building a product to disrupt the Edtech industry
Lead the transitions necessary to grow the engineering and data science organisation by 3x over the next 6-12 months.
Lead sprints with goals aligned to the product roadmap; manage and coach in-house engineers; and write exemplarily code and define our future architecture.
Work closely with the product team to develop our platforms with the goal of qualitatively and quantitatively grow our primary and secondary user bases rapidly and iteratively
Provide technical expertise and leadership wherever required throughout product life cycles, influence/evangelise best engineering practices
Architecting, building, testing, and releasing features with the highest quality. You will be very involved at the ground level and work closely with your engineers to identify and improve team, product and engineering quality. You will focus a good portion of your time in contributing and reviewing code.
Lead the recruitment process to identify and hire top engineering talent in India, Vietnam and/or the rest of the world.
Help shape the engineering team culture by working closely with your reports and helping them grow their career at VI by giving frequent guidance and motivation
Represent Virtual Internships in conversations with external parties
Strong interest in the Universities/Higher Education/Upskilling/Future of Work space
Deep empathy for our three key end-users (intern, companies, universities & other partners)
“Founder DNA”- either the mindset or experience of being a founder, you exhibit the traits of high performance, grit, and limitless thinking
Know how to build a product yourself, ideally you’ll have done this no more than 5 years ago
Experience growing and leading an engineering organization of 10-50 people at a venture-backed, high-growth scaleup as a Senior Director/VP+
Experience working with and leading Data Science/ML/ AL teams OR have significant knowledge in this field
Experience supporting product engineering teams that work cross-functionally in a squad/EPD model.
Experience and a desire to zoom in and zoom out as necessary. We want someone who is excited and capable of tackling interesting technical/scale challenges with their team
